We are always looking for volunteers to support our work. We have a range of opportunities available so please have a look and see if any of these inspire you to join us.


 ask Volunteer Parent Champion

Could you provide support to parents in your local community?

Parent Champion

ask Parent Champions are parents who have positive experience of using childcare and/or supporting their child’s early learning and who support and advise other parents in their community. 

  • We are looking for a contribution of 5 hours per week, although some of this time will be part of your normal weekly routines e.g. time spent talking with other parents at the Parent and Toddler Group, the Pre-School or School gate.
  • You will receive expenses including travel costs, full training, an induction, a mobile phone for business calls and regular support and supervision from the Volunteer Co-ordinator.

The ask Parent Champion project started in 2011 in partnership with the Daycare Trust, who are working with organisations across the country to develop a network of Parent Champions. Are you looking for a volunteering opportunity close to your home with hours to fit around your existing commitments?

ask are looking for volunteers willing to keep the information we supply to schools, surgeries, libraries and other organisations within their community area up to date. This includes posters, leaflets and other promotional and informational materials.

In addition we would like the Community Volunteer to be an ambassador for ask who would promote ask to parents and carers within their community, ensuring that parents and carers are aware of the information and support available.

Full training and support will be provided together with the payment of agreed expenses.

ask Family transask Helpline Volunteers

Do you enjoy talking to people on the phone?
 
The Family Information Service at ask is looking for volunteers interested in working alongside an experienced helpline worker and training to provide front line responses to information requests from parents, carers and professionals. The Family Information Service provides information, support and signposting on a wide range of family issues. The helpline is located at our offices in Steeple Ashton and is available Monday to Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm. Full training and support will be provided. Volunteer Independent Parental Supporters (IPS)

SEN transparentAre you a good communicator and non-judgemental? Can you offer some spare time to support parents of children with Special Educational Needs?  Could you support parents at meetings, help them to understand paperwork or provide impartial advice?

ask are looking for volunteer IPS’s. To work with the Parent Partnership Service providing telephone and face to face support to parents and carers of children aged 0-19 who have a special educational need. This is an opportunity to work on a one-to-one basis within your local community and some knowledge of the SEN system would be helpful. An application and interview will be required. A full training course must be passed together with induction and ongoing training as appropriate.  A level of commitment is required – to suit both the service and volunteer with a minimum commitment of 2 hours a week. 

No experience is needed as full training and support will be provided by the ask Parent Partnership Service, who are the statutory Parent Partnership service for Wiltshire.

Administrative opportunities

We are looking for volunteers interested in supporting ask at our offices in Steeple Ashton, by:

  • Assisting us to keep our information databases up to date, by phoning and emailing organisations to check that the details we hold are correct.
  • Inputting the information gathered into our database.

Full training and support will be provided for all our volunteering opportunities together with the payment of agreed expenses.
